Chapter Five:
All three left the cemetery and Meri saw a large church.
"Is this a church?" Meri asked them. "Why do you ask?" Dess asked, not understanding why she was reacting like that?
"What religion is this church?" Meri asked, knowing that there were several religions in her area. "Delta, every monster in town knows that." Noelle said almost immediately. "What does it mean?" Meri asked.
"How can you not know where she's from" Noelle thought, not understanding what it's like not to know. "Let me explain it to you" Dess explained about Delta and what it means.
"I see, by the way, one more thing" Meri shows her cross on her neck "Aren't you familiar with this symbol?" Meri asked "Well, this is a religion of people as I know, not very popular among monsters" Dess said. Meanwhile, while they were talking, some monster comes out of the church.
"Who is this?" Meri asked thinking they knew him. "This is Father Alvin" Noelle said and Dess continued "He is a priest of this church and he is wearing the Delta symbol" pointing to his clothes.
"Hello children, how are you?" he asked. "Okay, holy father," said Dess. Father Alvin saw Meri and asked, "Who is that with you, I haven't seen her before?" Dess answered, "This is Meri, our friend, she is not from this city." He responded, "I understand, I am already closing the church, you can come tomorrow, if you want, you can take your friend." "We will know," they said and went on.
Meri was wondering what other monsters there were in this world when she saw a priest who looked like a turtle.
"Dess maybe we should show Meri the city?" Dess thought this idea was great for her "Good idea Noel, how do you like Meri's idea for you to see the city?" Meri thought about this suggestion but she said that their parents were waiting "Seems good, but aren't your parents waiting?" Dess replied "There's still time, so let's go" Meri nodded and they went to show her the city.
They decided that the first place they would show was the lake. As they walked towards it, Dess was telling the peculiarities of this lake: "Once in a few years, very interesting flowers appear there, they repeat everything you say." "Really?" Meri asked in surprise. "It's true, but it's a pity they don't grow this year, but nothing strange, the lake is already beautiful." Dess said sadly, and Meri, remembering what abilities she had, thought that the flowers would make an exception for her.
"Here we are," said Dess while Meri admired the view of the lake. "How beautiful it is here," thought Meri. When she was little, she rarely left the monastery and after she ended up with bad people, she never saw the sun at all.
"So how do you like it, Meri?" Noelle said hoping she would like it "It's… It's beautiful" "Really?" Dess didn't expect that reaction unlike Noelle "Yeah, can I sit here for a bit?" Dess nodded and Meri sat down on the edge and just looked out into the distance of the lake.
"You look so lonely, Meri. I wish I could do more for you." Dess said while Meri looked at the lake and replied "It's okay, Dess. You've done so much for me. I can't thank you enough." They just fell silent and looked at her while she thought about something.
This went on for a few more minutes until Noel broke the silence, "Are you feeling better yet, Meri?" Hoping that her mood was improving, "Are you feeling better yet, Meri?" Noelle and Dess were scared that something had repeated Noelle's words, "What was that?" "What was that?" Dess looked around in fear and saw a small Echo flower not far from Meri.
"I see, Noel, you see" "I see, Noel, you see" Dess pointed her finger at the flower, Meri asked anxiously "What kind of flower is this" "What kind of flower is this" Dess only said "Let's leave so it doesn't repeat after us" "Let's leave so it doesn't repeat after us" Meri and Noelle nodded and left that place.
"So what was that?" Meri asked looking at Dess. "It was that Echo Flower I told you about but I don't understand why it appeared now it was only supposed to be there in a year." Meri realized that it most likely appeared because of her powers but decided not to talk about it. Dess started talking again.
"Okay, let's move on, Mom will be angry that we're walking for so long, let's go to my house already," said Dess. "What if they don't want to let me in?" Meri asked her and Dess said the following: "We already said that everything will be fine, just trust us." Meri grinned in response with the hope that it will be so and they went to their house.
The walk home was as leisurely as usual, but now it seemed livelier, with someone following them. Dess was the first to break the silence that had fallen since they left the lake, but in no time the three children were chatting happily. Dess told Meri about other parts of town she hadn’t been to yet, and Noelle told her about her home. It was only fair, considering they were taking her there.
"Actually, it was a nice change of pace." Meri thought as she looked at the houses that were near the road where she saw several monsters.
"Here we are," said Dess looking at the gate. "Behind them is our house, Meri." Meri saw it behind the gate. It was quite lovely, although she had seen few houses in her life.
While Dess was opening the gate, Meri was thinking about what she would tell Noelle and Dess's parents, since she had never even seen them. "Noelle," Meri turned around. "Do you think everything will go well?" The last time she asked this, the answer would not change. "Don't be afraid, everything will go well," Noelle expressed with a sweet smile.
"That's it I opened the gate if you want" Dess said, they all went into the house and came to the door Dess rang for her father or mother to open the door, while they were waiting for the door to open, Meri felt fear for their parents even after Dess and Noelle's words. But all the fear went away when the door was opened.
She saw their father, whose name was Rudy.
